You hold on tight as the weekly rollercoaster slows for the weekend, hopefully to give you enough time to catch your breath, tell your heart that it is ok and allow your mind and body a chance to prepare for that next spike in the ride that will inevitably come when you least expect it.

You pry your hands from the rail and glance to the side to see that you're not alone, but that beside you, with their hair standing on end, eyes nearly popping out of their socket, and a look on their face that only you can appreciate, is your partner glancing back at you. You think that you must look quite a sight, and then you both laugh and know instinctively that they are the one. The one and only person who you know you can trust and depend on and that you want to be sitting right there, next to you, experiencing all that this ride has to throw at you both, together.

In the beginning when the ride starts for the very first time everything is exciting and a little bit frightening and your emotions are overwhelming and confusing but you are together and that is all that matters because you will both face whatever comes together, head on.

And then down the track the ride gets bumpy and a lot of perils come at you both at once. Finances, family and work commitments. You enter the darkest tunnels of emotion and hold tight to each other and sure there have been times when you have disagreed but, any hurt that was caused by either partner was unintentional and without reservation regrettable and could be pinpointed at the fears and thoughts being experienced by you both and the hesitance to burden them on each other.

At one time you look to the side and it seems like you are alone and you feel abandoned, lonely, depressed, unappreciated and unattractive. And at a couple of points along the way the green-eyed monster even rears its head. The fact is that your are not alone but that you have both been jostled to different carriages and that you are both franticly fighting madly to make your way back to each other.

As we trundle along we can quite often become too mesmerized with the ride itself and unknowingly and unintentionally not be as attentive to our partner in the seat beside us and it is not until we have the fortunate opportunity to experience that other persons seat that we then jolt ourselves out of the trance, tighten the seat belt and take hold of each others hands.

Its time to put on the hand brake, pause a moment, turn off the telly, take the phone off the hook and tell the rest of the world to go to hell, just for a while and take in the simple wonder of the person in the seat beside you. And not just once in a while or once a week but every day. In the words of Billy Joel, "Tell them about it". What ever 'it' is, however small or insignificant you feel it may be. Take that leap of faith and lighten your heart of any thought.

Hold their hand, nibble their neck, kiss them, tickle them or just look at them the way that only they make you feel and be revitalized. Be childish, relax, let down your guard and be there for them, and for you. If it comes from the heart, and I mean truly from the heart, then each and every kiss or "I love you" or any small sign of intimacy will be individually special on its own, even if it is the 5 millionth time that day. Notice the small, little things. Notice each other.

Don't allow misconception to prevail. Tell them that you wait for their call and always have. That the hardest part of the day is when you say goodbye and goodnight. That they are the most important thing in your life and that your really are happy.

I know that I may never have the opportunity to be that rugged, bronzed, whip cracking, hat wearing adventurer who would trek through the densest poison ivy, swim the most croc infested waters, scale the highest peak or fight off the toughest koala bear to bring to you a flower with only one petal, but I will always be able to hold your smile in my heart.

I will always be there to catch you,
Just as you are always there for me
On this ride, right next to you,
Is where I'll always be.
For when the going gets tough...
